The Syrah is from three vineyards in the Mount Barker subregion, each providing its own unique character. Trappers Gully gives dark fruits, salinity and structure, Lecco fruit is light and pretty, and the Merrebee Syrah has sweet red fruit characters and lovely weight. Fruit was hand-harvested and partially de-stemmed (approx. 75% whole bunch), fermented with wild yeast and then basket-pressed to a combination of old oak barriques and puncheons. The wine is reflective of the warmer year, with sweet and peppery varietal characters, but not without fresh balancing acid.
