The Second Sin ~ Pear snakebite

THE SECOND SIN ~ SNAKEBITE  50/50 Split of beer and Pear juice that has undergone wild fermentation. The Second Sin is a collaboration with fellow Gippslandian´s Gurneys Cidery and is a blend of Green Horse & Packham Pears and Gippsland grown grain.

We must admit this artwork was not made for this beer The Second Sin or The Original Sin before this, it was commissioned for another beer, in a different time before Covid….. But when we started talking with the Gurnetts about teaming up to make a beer & cider collaboration we couldn’t go past this amazing piece already done for us by printmaker Alexis Snell who actually comes from the land of snakebites, the drink variety of lager/cider not the hospital variety, although I believe from my internet research that the drink variety probably has landed a few in hostpital.

Green Horse & Packham Pears -
The Green Horse is a true Perry Pear variety normally found in Gloucestershire in the UK, turns out it grows really well in Gippsland at Gurneys Cidery too! The Green Horse has attractive olive green-yellowish fruit and is shaped more like an apple than a pear. Green Horse are high in acidity, (tasting more like a pear flavoured warhead!) with low/moderate tannins that create body and length!

Traditional cider making

All Gurneys Ciders are proudly handmade in Foster, Gippsland on the family farm using apples and pears from our own and nearby orchards. At Gurneys they keep Cider making simple and use a mix of traditional and new world production techniques such as Gurneys traditional rack and cloth press used for pressing the fruit. This results are cider full of terroir and character that changes with seasons. All of Gurneys ciders are made using No Added Sugar, 100% apples & Pears or real fruit, Wild yeasts, Low energy inputs and are gluten free and vegan friendly! Go Gurneys!!
